2008年，研究生部将不定期为大家开展“人文系列讲座”，旨在提高大家的人文及艺术修养，并提供一个轻松交换思想的平台。“人文系列讲座”将从西方文化开始，将在近期为大家进行一系列的以介绍美国文化为主题的交流（Jim'talk)，内容包括美国的人文景观、艺术、电影、政治、生活等，此外，Dr.Diamond还将和大家分享如何写好英文Paper的经验，每次讲座内容一个小时，半个小时为讨论及自由交流时间。这是一个了解西方文化，及提高英语水平的很好机会，欢迎大家前来参加！

　　第一讲为“美国西部景观及文化”，

讲座概要为：
　　The relationship between Landscape and Culture in the American West is a subject of great and continued interest among scholars, students, and the public at large. The images that arose from the 19th Century exploration of the American West inspired generations of Americans, influencing demographics, politics, agricultural and industrial development, and even giving birth to the environmental movement in the United States of America. We will take a look at this relationship through the works of two photographers, Ansel Adams, and Eliot Porter.

　　Dr.Diamond中文名为“汤杰慕”，来自美国，为Linfield College化学系的教授，目前在中心朱劲松研究员实验小组任客座教授。
